Yann | 29 | Severe knee pain exercising 15 years after surgery to remove meniscus.

The comeback

I lived an active lifestyle but over time the pain became so bad I couldn’t run anymore, even a short dash to the bus. I couldn’t go to the gym and even walking would cause irritation. But over four weeks I did 10 physio sessions at Warrior and four Comeback Club classes. By the end of it I was jogging.

I wanted to try alternatives to a steroid injection as I'm only 29 and may need to rely on it when I'm older. This has been a brilliant, natural way to get my mobility back. It's still not what it was but the progress has been huge. Walking is fine and a big improvement for me is being able to do a single leg squat. I will keep coming to get stronger.

Why Yann keeps coming back

Physio and the Comeback Club has got me to the stage of being able to do a group exercise class and weight lifting exercises on top of the rehab. Both Sevda and Tom have been so helpful and professional, following up on how I’m getting on on a constant basis. My quad size has increased and I'm starting to get more strength back.

My tip for anyone recovering from an injury is to be consistent with your exercises and physio or you won’t get better!

Juan | 52 | Knee pain returned after a number of knee operations over the years.

The comeback

Before the Comeback Club my pain hovered between 4-7 out of 10. Now I am playing tennis once a week, doing my rehab exercises and physio at the Comeback Club and Warrior. I also go swimming and cycling and can generally do more things now.

The machines do work. The theory behind them is being able to stimulate muscle movement without loading the injured area. I have seen muscle growth and pain reduced.

I will sign up for more classes to build up the results. I want to reach a higher level, plateau, and then build again.

Why Juan keeps coming back

It’s like you’re with a PT all the time. It’s hard to keep up with the physio exercises at home but this is like a fitness programme - I’m doing my exercises here and I’m more motivated to do them at home because I can see a quicker pace of change.

The Comeback Club keeps you honest and consistent and you know it's run by physio professionals so there's no risk of doing further damage to yourself which is what I'd worry about going to a different group class. It’s fun meeting everyone in similar positions and with similar outlooks - we’re a team and we chat and have banter. It’s fantastic, I’d recommend it to everyone who needs physio.
